Either this is because Ornstein is of the race of gods and Smough is just a giant, or because Ornstein is (like the sentinels, who also receive bonus damage from occult weapons despite being giants and not gods) an illusion created by Gwyndolin and Smough is not. WebPart of what makes dark souls bosses great is that they have a sense of 'event' that I find really enjoyable.
